It’s not clear to me what is redundant. The “plus” part could refer to allies or people with various affectional orientations (a new term to me).

Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT#Other_variants <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT#Other_variants>) says that Q can be queer or questioning.
