Sounds likely, more so than a flick in which the pit really was in the stomach.  And if it was a British film, that opens the possibility to all sorts of puddings might have concealed the proof.  Or maybe the pudding was spiked, causing the intended victim inadvertently getting drunk and driving his car off the cliff.
