I read this yesterday in the 1991 translation of Bourdieu's *Language and
Symbolic Power*:

Where 'If you would do me the honour of coming' is appropriate, 'You ought
to come' would be out of place, because too off-hand, and 'Will you come?'
would be distinctly 'crude' (p. 80).

Maybe it's a translation error, but it looks an awful lot to me like an
early instance of prepositional because (and with an adjective phrase as
its complement!).
