Just between you and I, this type of construction has always struck me as a
peculiarity of BritSpeak, ever since I ran across Barbara Strang's claim
that it could be considered standard, over there (A History of English,
London 1970). Crystal's History of English, CUP 1995 p.194, "Complaint 1".
     Yet, nary a soup├žon of Black influence. (Such racism.)
