[Ads-l] Quote: Television? No good will come of this device. The word is half Greek and half Latin. - Attributed to C. P. Scott on June 9, 1956

I received a request via twitter to explore the remark in the subject
line. Nigel Rees presented a 1971 attribution to Scott in "Cassell's
Humorous Quotations" (2001). "The Macmillan Dictionary of Quotations"
(1989) and "The Dictionary of Outrageous Quotations" (1988) credited
Scott without citation.

In 1984 the syndicated feature Cryptoquote credited H. L. Mencken.

The Quote Investigator article presents a June 9, 1956 citation in
"The Manchester Guardian" attributing the remark to Scott. There is
room for improvement because Scott died in 1932.

Before people complained about the etymology of "television" they
complained about "automobile" as indicated in the QI article.

Feedback welcome
