This one piques my interest as it relates to the history of skiing,
specifically in the differentiation between nordic/alpine,
cross-county/downhill. It's my understanding that there wasn't any real
differentiation until the development of mechanized tows/pulls/lifts.
This is a bit earlier than the period that I know of that happening.
