For those who need formal written evidence, an issue of Newsweek a couple

of weeks ago (they tend to pile up on my kitchen table) referred to, and

defined McMansions as over-elaborate houses (two story entranceways,

two-story windows, three-car garages), particularly on standard

city-sized lots.  The issue had a cover story and long series of

articles on Design in America.<br>

Here in Detroit they are referred to among realtors (we bought a house

here a year and a half ago and spent a lot of time with a realtor who

actually knew what linguists did) as 'bigfoots'. ('large footprint' was

his accounting for the etymology).<br><br>
