<font size=3>Something I've noticed over the past year or so (maybe a
little longer) is a subtle shift in the meaning of the word 'confused',
which, to me, means 'mixed up, jumbled', but seems often to be used
nowadays, particularly by the younger set to mean just 'puzzled' or
'uncertain'. For example, in the local student newspaper, the
'Southender', yesterday there was an article about FERPA, with the
headline:<br><br>
FERPA: Students confused or unaware of key rights.<br><br>
The first paragraph says the law 'is not widely known or understood
within the campus community. Most students do not know what FERPA
is or how it affects their rights to privacy.'<br>
This is just one example, but I've seen lots of others. I didn't
find anything in the 'easy' archives about this, but maybe I just didn't
look far enough.<br><br>
