Og the Leprechaun has a 'trademark' cry 'Gloom and Doom! Doom and
Gloom!' periodically throughout the show as bad things threaten to happen
to him (like losing his pot of gold, and becoming human). Finian's
Rainbow opened in 1947, and the movie (1968) follows the script pretty
closely, although I haven't compared them in detail and haven't seen the
movie in a very long time (I was the evil sheriff in a local production a
number of years ago). Og is, of course, a comic character
(especially in a musical comedy) but I'd guess he didn't make up the
phrase, but just adopted it from common parlance. Of course I have
no evidence for this, but others on this list who are experts could fill
in the gaps.<br><br>
