Help me fill a pressing need?

Lovely to hear from you Meg, though I'm still blushing in horror that I sent that a message out publicly that I intended only for Marguerite! Since I haven't (yet) died altogether from embarrassment, I think we should ask to Rand to decide how to host the papers. I will definitely pass on your offer (though you're welcome to do the same!) I do think SUNY Press has forfeited any moral right it may have had!
I'm glad to know you're still hard at work in the heart of Anishinaabemowin. I missed the Algonquian Conference this year, but hope to be there to see Stephanie host: she's worked so hard to get us to accept her invitation! Chi Miigwech for the offer of help!

They've got all the WNALP files digitized now and are building a collection with me that is heavy on Ojibwe but is broadly Algonquian. Now that I'm here in at the crossroads of several languages with Bernie Perley and Rand nearby perhaps I can help!

I am also prepared to sacrifice more of my own collection (which lacks only Volume 19), but I'll give the group a chance first.
>> Thanks for letting me know you're on board, at least. One person who shall remain nameless told me this was an act of foolishness, since the papers are wasted on anyone who lacks the ability to find them in the library (I'm hoping it was just a bad day).

I hope it's all right that I've given them your email address as part of the informal, but much needed "Genealogy of Cree Linguistics in Canada" lecture I gave Antti. Trond and Antti worked together on Microsoft's spell-checker and grammar checkers for Swedish and Finnish. They both seem to have mad programming chops. My main mission in going was to get them to discard the Alberta Elders' Dictionary as the foundation of their work, since it was prepared unprofessionally, and is riddled with all kinds of nonsense. I was genuinely delighted that they listened, understood and agreed -- and that Chris also allowed me to share his Student Dictionary with them as a starting database. Next, I want to put them in touch with Nichols, and see whether one of their programmers can help him migrate his Ojibwe data out of Moodle or whatever wretched tool UofMinnesota is making him use! I realize that Marie-Odile has related projects underway, but I can't imagine her programmers have the kind of linguistics background these guys have got. And Lori Morris would have loved the conversation I had with Trond about the differences in English and Finnish reading paedagogy.

I don't know if they are referring to the cost of buying a complete set, the cost of paying someone to use the scanner, or the cost of housing the dataset online, but I'm certain that I'm not alone in my impatience for this resource in electronic form.
>>>

Perhaps we'll even discover someone on the verge of retirement who might appreciate the chance to downsize their personal library for the greater good.
>>>
>>> Jeff Muehlbauer (now at Brandon University) has offered the use of his industrial-strength scanner, and once we have a complete scanned set assembled, we can arrange to have the set housed online at Brandon, or perhaps Rand can arrange an online home for the collection at Madison.
>>>
>>> For now, I want to thank Dick Preston for volunteering a number of his personal copies, to which I have added some copies of my own. Between us, we have assembled 11 volumes to de-spine and scan (with Jeff's help) the next time I'm in Brandon.

I will accept the first of each volume number offered, and provide my mailing address to anyone else who has another volume or two to add to the set.
