If it is possible and appropriate for you to share, I would like to ask for some more information on the role of garter snakes in Blackfoot culture.

Your help in this is much appreciated.

Roland, In addition to Intertribal Snake Dances there are Snake Dances and many Snake Dance Songs in the repertories of Wabanaki communities. The paper I published in the Papers of the 30th Algonquian Conference might contain some useful references for
you. I will put it up on

I am looking for information on Algonquian ideas around snakes, especially for garter snakes in Blackfoot and Plains Cree cultures. So far, the works of Wissler and Mandelbaum that I could access, have not yielded much information.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.
