2. Kartvel

In association with the Caucasiology Section at the Universitaet Jena
(Germany) ALT offers to stage a Teach-in on Kartvelian languages. It would
be held at Jena, and possible dates are December 14-18 (Thu-Sun) or 11-14
(Mon-Thu), 1995.
Its objectives would be (i) to offer introductions (more or less
elementary, depending on the audience) to the synchronic and diachronic
phonology, morphology, syntax, and lexicon of Georgian, Svan, Mingrelian,
Laz; (ii) to enable participants to do consultant work with native
speakers; and (iii) to bring together people working on Kartvel for a
colloquium on the typological significance of this family.
The chief lecturing burden would be on Heinz Faehnrich (Jena) and
Zurab Sardzhveladze (Tbilisi); but it is hoped that other Kartvelologists
would be contributing to the lecture programme or the colloquium. The
language of instruction will be German, Russian, and maybe English.
In order to enable us and the colleagues at Jena to properly plan
the Kartvel Workshop, would those interested in attending and perhaps
contributing please get in touch with F. Plank asap (Tel:
+49-7531-882656/-57450; Email: frans.plank at uni-konstanz.de; Snail-mail:
Sprachwissenschaft, Universitaet Konstanz, Postfach 5560, D-78434 Konstanz,
Germany).
