There appear to be some difficulties with the job advertisement I sent
out yesterday. Some people cannot open the attachment, and the incorrect
starting date was given. Here is the full text.

UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC - SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES

Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer in Literature and Language
 Ref. 99/87  -  VLV004

The appointee will be based at the Pacific Languages Unit (PLU), on
USP's Emalus Campus, Port Vila, Vanuatu.  The PLU offers programmes in
Pacific Language Studies and the appointee will be expected to teach
undergraduate courses, mainly through distance mode, in several branches
of linguistics and language studies; produce distance-learning course
materials; and conduct appropriate research and consultancy.

Applicants must have a good Masters degree in linguistics or a cognate
discipline; be able to teach undergraduate courses across a range of
different areas; and be familiar with the language situation in the
Pacific.  For appointment at the Lecturer level, applicants must have a
PhD in a relevant area or a relevant Masters degree with a good
publication record; and significant teaching experience in a developing
context.

Preference will be given to applicants with working knowledge of a
national language of one or more of the USP countries.  Experience in
distance teaching or in translation, or knowledge of Bislama, French, or
a Pacific language would be a distinct advantage.

Appointment to a position of Assistant Lecturer will normally only be
made to citizens of the twelve countries of the USP region.

This position is available for a fixed period of 3 years from 1 February
2000.  Any further renewal would be subject to the availability of
funding and satisfactory performance.

Salary range:		Lecturer		Vatu 2 750 726 to Vatu 3
619 376 per annum
			Assistant Lecturer	Vatu 2 171 626 to Vatu 2
605 951 per annum
						(inclusive of 15%
gratuity)

In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of
salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and
relocation costs, and substantially subsidises housing.
