New CD of West Papua Music

A CD of recordings originally made by Dutch linguist Johannes Cornelis
Anceaux during his fieldwork on West Papuan languages (1954-61) has just
been released by Pan Records, in collaboration with the Royal Tropical
Institute:

Examples from the following northern West Papuan languages are included
amongst the 29 tracks: Biak, Bongo, Demta, Kayupulau, Nimboran, Ormu, Pom,
Sentani, Sko, and Yotafa, as well as Vanimo in Papua New Guinea. At least
two of the tracks also contain parts of songtexts in Tok Pisin: nos. 5
(from Sko) and 9 (from Kayupulau), a fact omitted in the notes.

Commercial releases from this part of the Pacific are rare indeed and such
historical materials are particularly welcome.
