TWO NEWS ITEMS REGARDING 10-ICAL
Tenth International Conference on Austronesian Linguistics
17-20 January 2006
Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines

I. IT IS NOW POSSIBLE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS AT THE LEGEND HOTEL IN PUERTO
PRINCESA CITY THROUGH THE 10-ICAL WEBPAGE:
http://www.sil.org/asia/philippines/ical.html

Just follow the appropriate links. Staying at the Legend is your most
convenient option, and all participants are encouraged to make reservations
for their stay there. It is also possible to stay off-site at your own
initiative. (Puerto Princesa City is full of options, but you will have to
deal with your own daily transportation to and from the conference venue.)

NOTE: You will need to arrive in Puerto Princesa by 16 January 2006 in order
to attend the full conference. Most flights arrive in Puerto Princesa in the
morning hours.

If you require an overnight (or more) in Metro Manila on your way in or out
of the Philippines, the Legend Hotel will also help you with reservations at
Mabuhay Manor in Pasay City for the same 10-ICAL rate. Mabuhay Manor is
located approximately 15 minutes from the Ninoy Aquino International
Airport, and provides free airport pick-up. Again, this is your least-hassle
option.

II. CALL FOR PAPERS FOR PANEL SESSION ON: "AUSTRONESIAN SOCIOLINGUISTICS"

Der-Hwa Victoria Rau at Providence University in Taiwan is organizing a
panel on Austronesian Sociolinguistics for the 10-ICAL to provide a forum
for sociolinguists working on Austronesian languages to discuss their
research results. The topics cover a wide range of issues from linguistic
variation and change, sociolinguistic surveys, ethnography of communication,
to sociology of language. If your research deals with any aspect of
language use in an Austronesian community, it fits in our panel perfectly.
Please submit your abstract directly to 10-ical at sil.org and specify that you
would like to be considered for the Austronesian sociolinguistics panel.

Hope to see you in Puerto Princesa!
