Hi Debbie,

In SW Palawano (PLV) on the southern tip of Palawan in the Philippines, "to carry on the head" is 
/tenggol/ (with [e] being a slightly ruined schwa-like vowel.

There are specific verbs for all kinds of carrying based on the physical manner in which the object is carried, but nothing that I've noticed which is gender-specific.
