First Call for Abstracts

The Twentieth
INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON MALAY/INDONESIAN LINGUISTICS

(ISMIL20)

14-16 July 2016
Melbourne, Australia

Papers presented at ISMIL are concerned with the Malay/Indonesian 
language in any of its varieties.  In addition to the standardized 
versions of Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia, papers are particularly 
welcome dealing with non-canonical isolects such as regional dialects of 
Malay and Indonesian, contact varieties, and other closely related 
Malayic languages.  Papers may be in any of the subfields of 
linguistics, and may represent variegated approaches and diverse 
theoretical persuasions. Presentations at ISMIL are delivered in English.

Persons wishing to present a paper at the symposium are invited to 
submit a one-page abstract in electronic form (preferably pdf, but 
MsWord also acceptable) to David Gil at the following address:

Final deadline for submission of abstracts: 15 March 2016

Early Submission Procedure:

In recognition of the logistic challenges some potential participants 
may be facing in traveling to Melbourne, we have introduced an Early 
Submission Procedure:

Abstracts may be submitted at any time prior to the deadline, beginning 
now.Abstracts will be reviewed by the programme committee in two 
intermediate rounds, each with its own deadline:

Intermediate Deadline 1: December 15 2015

Intermediate Deadline 2: January 30 2016

Applicants will be informed of the programme committee's decision within 
two weeks of each deadline.(Thus, applicants submitting before December 
15 will be informed by December 30, while applicants submitting before 
January 30 will be informed by February 15.)We hope that this procedure 
will make it possible for participants to see to their travel 
arrangements, and if necessary procure funding, well in advance
