This notice of change of the editorial team at Oceanic Linguistics is an opportune moment to make a further announcement about Emeritus Professor John Lynch, one of the retiring editors.

The ARC Centre for Excellence for the Dynamics of Language, the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History, and University of the South Pacific will be hosting the Vanuatu Languages Conference (July 25 - 27, 2018, USP, Vanuatu). The conference is being held in honour of John, who has been a pioneer of Vanuatu and Oceanic linguistics. John will be a keynote speaker, reflecting on his 50-year involvement in the field.

Most of the researchers currently working on Vanuatu languages are intending to attend this conference, and a volume of proceedings will be published, as a festschrift in John's honour.

We would like to invite colleagues who have been associated with John and his academic contributions in any way to consider two opportunities to express their appreciation of/to him:

1. Provide a short note of acknowledgement and appreciation that can be shared with John at an appropriate occasion during the Vanuatu Languages Conference, and/or
2. Indicate your interest in receiving further information about contributing a paper, research note or squib to the published volume to be prepared in John's honour.

Kind regards,

Robert Early
(for Vanuatu Languages Conference co-organisers Nick Thieberger and Mary Walworth)
