Does anyone know who coined the term "phonestheme" and/or how it was formed?
It is not entered in BUSSMANN, Hadumod ((1996). Dictionary of language and linguistics.
London & New York: Routledge.
To me its formation is very odd.
Either it follows the rule of Greek compounds in English - in which case it should be
"phonotheme"-, with an O, not an S.
or it follows that of "Saxon" English compounds - in which case it should be "phone-
theme/phonetheme", without an S.
