</span><span style="font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"; color:#3C3C3C">The Macmillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies was founded through a bequest from the late Professor John Macmillan Brown (1846-1935). A founding Professor of the University
of Canterbury and a former Vice Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, he spent a considerable amount of time travelling and studying the countries of the Pacific. Under the terms of Professor Macmillan Brown's will, the Centre was established in 1988
at the University of Canterbury to facilitate the 'investigation and research of the history, traditions, customs, laws, and ideas of the peoples of the Pacific generally.' The Macmillan Brown Centre has links with the Macmillan Brown Library, and also Canterbury
Museum which houses part of the John Macmillan Brown Collection.</span><span style="font-size:9.0pt; font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"; color:#3C3C3C"><br>

</span><span style="font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"; color:#3C3C3C">The University of Canterbury is looking for an established researcher to lead the Macmillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies, and drive research excellence in Pacific studies,
at or equivalent to the academic level of Associate Professor or Professor. </span>

</span><span style="font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"; color:#3C3C3C">Hours of work are negotiable with the preferred applicant, ranging from a 0.3 FTE (nominally 11.25 hours per week) to full-time, 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours per week). The position
is continuing, however secondment or a fixed term appointment may be negotiated. </span><span style="font-size:9.0pt; font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"; color:#3C3C3C"><br>

the Centre in accordance with the University’s strategic objectives and the terms of John Macmillan Brown’s legacy, including support for thesis students. <br>

The successful candidate will have an established record of distinction in research and scholarship (commensurate with the academic grade of Associate Professor or Professor), and leadership experience overseeing an academic unit or units at a Research University.
The ability to develop and sustain effective relationships with University Staff and research institutions is also essential for this role. A position at or approaching a full-time role is also likely to reflect the capacity to maintain an outstanding personal
research profile, to generate significant external research income, and may include some teaching into undergraduate programmes through relevant University departments.</span><span style="font-size:9.0pt; font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"; color:#3C3C3C"><br>
