Who in heaven’s name is Yuko Kitada, this person who sends almost daily missives to the AN list? She has all sorts of ideas about the next AN conference – no doubt they are reasonable, but really does Ms. Kitada need to try to set the venue, micromanage the
details, and influence the streering committee through the AN list?</div>

Is Ms. Kitada an arbiter qualified to judge individual scholars? I admire Malcom Ross and Sander Adelaar. No doubt they deserve to be praised. But is Ms. Kitada the person who has been annointed to sanctify them? Nor should anyone be crowned “a treasure” on
the list, much as they might deserve the appellation.</div>

Where does she get off lecturing recipients of the list on proper ways to post messages? No doubt she is correct in her point of view, but the AN list is, to my mind, not a place to chide behavior or talk about anything but language and linguistics. The one
exception is announcement, and I have no quarrel with Ms. Kitada’s efforts to set zoom or other internet discussions up.
