<div>Many of you will already have heard that our friend and colleague Andy Pawley passed away peacefully in Canberra yesterday morning.</div>

<div>His absence will leave a large gap in many lives. He was a good friend, outstandingly generous with both his intellectual and his materlal goods, and, of course, a brilliant and gifted student of the languages and peoples of the Pacific and Papua New Guinea. </div>

<div>Sadly Andy had battled with Parkinson’s disease for a number of years. He will be hugely missed. He was 84.</div>
