THE AMERICAN RESEARCH CENTER IN EGYPT
FIFTY-FIRST ANNUAL MEETING
BERKELEY
APRIL 28-30, 2000

CALL FOR PAPERS  DEADLINE EXTENDED!

AT-LARGE PAPERS:  Those who are interested in presenting papers at the 2000
annual meeting in Berkeley should submit abstracts to the appropriate review
committee no later than February 10, 2000.  This year we would like to
encourage
participants to submit papers in the following general areas:  modern Arabic
literature, Islamic law and society, popular culture, ancient Egyptian
imperialism, Egypt in the First Millennium B.C., tomb painting, Deir
el-Medinah, Egyptian ceramics.  If enough submissions are received in any of
these categories we will create panels focused around these themes.

Abstracts of papers on Ancient Egyptian or Coptic topics should be sent with
this form to:  Professor Cathleen Keller, Near Eastern Studies Department,
University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720-1940.  Abstracts of papers on
Islamic or modern Egyptian topics should be sent with this form to:  Professor
Margaret Larkin, Near Eastern Studies Department, University of California,
Berkeley, CA 94720-1940.  Abstracts should be no more than 500 words.  Please
send hard copy AND disk copy of abstract in Word or Word Perfect; or e-mail
(Islamic/Modern:  larkin at socrates.berkeley.edu; Ancient/Coptic:
redmount at socrates.berkeley.edu).

NO ABSTRACT WILL BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT THIS FORM OR THE EQUIVALENT
