Beginning Fall 2003

DEPARTMENT OF NEAR EASTERN STUDIES
The University of Arizona

The Department of Near Eastern Studies of The University of Arizona
invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in
Arabic to begin fall 2003. The position will require the teaching of
various levels of Modern Standard Arabic and the successful candidate
will also teach in his/her areas of specialization: literature,
linguistics, language or cultural studies. Prospective candidates must
have obtained a Ph.D. degree by August 2003 and have a firm and
continuing commitment to both research and teaching. The successful
applicant will be fluent in Arabic and in English.  Prior teaching
experience in Modern Standard Arabic is preferred. Salary will be
contingent upon experience and qualifications.  To apply, please send
the search committee a curriculum vitae, one or two writing samples, a
statement of research interests and teaching methodology, and the names
and contact information of three individuals whom you have asked to send
letters of recommendation directly to the committee.
