Arabic Language Program Director

The Ohio State University, Department of Near Eastern Languages and  
Cultures (NELC), invites applications for the Director of the Arabic  
Language Program, with expertise in Arabic language instruction,  
acquisition and teaching methodology. The position is open at any  
rank: assistant, associate, or full professor, but preference will be  
given to an experienced associate professor.  The successful  
applicant will be expected to train and supervise graduate students  
in teaching elementary and intermediate Arabic; prepare proficiency- 
based teaching and testing materials and teach at the undergraduate  
and graduate levels and to supervise doctoral candidates.  Candidates  
must be engaged in an active program of research and publication.   
Requirements include native or near native fluency in Modern Standard  
Arabic; PhD in hand by September 2007, when the position begins; and  
demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research.

interests, CV, research writing sample, and names and complete

professor of Arabic, specializing in the field of Classical Arabic.   
The successful applicant will be expected to teach Classical Arabic  
language and literature at the undergraduate and graduate levels and

complete command of pre-Islamic, Qur'anic, and Medieval Arabic, as
