Special intensive classes – Arabic [SINCA]- Fall 2006


I. Schedule:

Part 1. SINCA-Part I:  September 22- October 15.  The courses will be  
offered on Fr, Sat. and Sun., 2:00- 7:00 p.m., for four weeks, 15  
hours a week, totaling 60 class hours.


Part 2.  SINCA –Pat II:  October 27- November 19.   The courses will  
be offered on Fr, Sat. and Sun., 2:00- 7:00 p.m., for four weeks, 15  
hours a week, totaling 60 class hours.


This schedule may be adjusted upon consultation with the Department  
of Languages and Regional Studies.

We are planning to offer several levels of intensive Arabic for these  
sessions.  A placement test will take place to establish level of  
proficiency on the first day of classes.

II. Purpose of the courses:

The purpose of these intensive courses is to develop mastery of  
Arabic orthographic and sound systems and the five language skills  
(listening, speaking, reading, writing, and culture) at the beginning  
and intermediate levels, respectively. Students will develop the  
ability to interact successfully in a variety of general  
communicative situations, to read short texts, and to deal generally  
with language in its most essential uses.


III. Tuition and other fees:

             A. Tuition:  for each four-week course is $960.00
             B. Other fees:
Non-refundable fees and costs include:

a)              $75.00 Annual registration fee
b)             $25.00 fee to upgrade to full membership in MEI  
(optional)
c)            Costs of books, tapes, CDs, DVDs and any other  
supplemental materials

d)            Costs of extra-curricular events and activities
