he University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Department of Asian 
Studies, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Arabic at 
the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2011. The Department 
seeks a promising scholar and teacher who will actively contribute to 
the intellectual mission of a research institution. Candidates whose 
research and teaching interests expand beyond language and literature to 
include fields such as Cultural Studies, Intellectual History, Gender 
Studies, Visual Studies, and/or Film Studies or other fields related to 
Arab cultures are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be able to teach 
language courses including at the advanced level and participate in the 
continued development of the Department's program in Arab cultures. PhD 
in hand or near completion by the time of appointment and demonstrated 
potential for innovative scholarship are required. Native or near-native 
fluency in Arabic and English is also required.

Qualified applicants should submit an online application including the
