The Arabic language program in the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Virginia invites applications for two full-time Lecturer positions in Modern Standard Arabic, to begin August 25, 2012. Each position is a three-year position, eligible for renewal contingent upon highly satisfactory performance. The teaching load is three courses per semester.

Required qualifications: 
Native or near-native proficiency in Arabic, M.A. in Arabic language or a related field, strong competence in Arabic grammar and fusha, knowledge of one or more Arabic dialects, and fluency in English. 

Preferred qualifications: 
Ph.D. in Arabic language or a related field; demonstrated skill in second-language teaching; ability to teach Arabic language classes at elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels; and ability to teach other courses that contribute to the Arabic program.
