Imagine studying Arabic in Oman, treasure of the Gulf.
Join our Arabic language and culture program and enrich your
understanding of Oman. Opportunities abound to vastly improve Arabic
language skills through our small but intensive classes, and to
interact with Omanis and learn about their rich cultural traditions.
Live in Nizwa, Oman's traditional former capital, and visit Muscat and
other points of interest on the weekends.

Applicants to this fully-funded program must be U.S. citizens. Click

DATES - June 7 - July 19, 2012 (six weeks)

ACADEMIC PROGRAM -
Level: For students at the Intermediate level (two years of university
Arabic or the equivalent)
Instruction: Modern Standard Arabic, Omani dialect, conversation,
media, use of "educated speech" (lughat-al-muthaqqafeen) as used on Al
Jazeera.
Textbook: Al Kitaab fii Taalum Al-Arabiya II (and materials developed
by our teaching staff)
Instructors: Native Omani Arabic speakers, with formal TAFL training
and experience teaching western university students and other
international audiences
Class size: Two classes, six students each

WHAT'S INCLUDED -
Transportation: Roundtrip airfare from Washington, DC to Muscat; and
local transportation
Orientation: Learn about Oman's rich history and vibrant culture
Accommodations and meals: Dormitory and local hostel accommodations in
Nizwa (located about one hour south of Muscat, Oman's capital city)
Cultural activities: Lecures and films, interactions with language
partners, visits to Muscat and other points of interest, gatherings
with Omani students
Excursions: Weekend trips to Muscat, interior villages and wadis

APPLICATION DEADLINE: APRIL 25.
Program space is limited to 12.
