Subject:MESA panel on Christian Arabs in America CFP

Dear Colleagues:

Call for Papers, MESA panel 2012 (Nov 17-20)-- Send 250-word abstracts
to Matthew Stiffler, stiffler.matthew at gmail.com and Yasmeen Hanoosh,
yhanoosh at pdx.edu by February 10:

"Politicized Faiths: Christian Arabs in America"-- what tropes,
social/political projects, and narratives are working to promote and
channel Christian Arab collective identities in the U.S.? What is the
political relationship between these minorities and the overarching
Arab diaspora in which they are usually embedded? How and for what
purpose do these groups--Coptic Americans, Antiochian Orthodox
Americans, Chaldean/Assyrian Americans, Maronite Americans--to name a
few, become politicized in specific ways? How does their church
affiliation help us cast new light on their politicized faiths?

Best,
yasmeen and Matt
