Scholarly Library of Islamic Philosophy

Today we offer the private working library of the late Professor
Muhsin Mahdi (1926-2007) for sale. It comprises c. 250 volumes in the
field of Islamic philosophy, most of the books are written in Arabic
language.

Background:
Muhsin Mahdi was the foremost scholar of medieval Arabic and Islamic
political philosophy during the 20th century. Born and raised in Iraq,
he completed his BA at the American University in Beirut, then pursued
his postgraduate studies at the University of Chicago. He turned to
philosophy and eventually to the study of Islamic political
philosophy.

During his life, Mahdi established himself as the world's leading
authority on many of the great Islamic philosophers, including Ibn
Khaldun, al-Farabi, Ibn Sina and Ibn al-Rushd. His best known
monographs include Ibn Khaldun's Philosophy of History: A Study in the
Philosophical Foundation of the Science of Culture (1957) and Alfarabi
and the Foundation of Islamic Political Philosophy (2011), and his
masterful critical edition of the earliest Arabic manuscript of the
Arabian Nights, Alf layla wa-layla (1984).


The price for this collection is EUR 12,500.00 (twelve thousand and
five hundred EUR)
(plus European VAT - if applicable - plus shipping charges).

The collection will only be sold as an entity, no parts or single
titles are offered for sale.
