Arabic Overseas Program (AOP)
Alexandria, Egypt

Position Description

SUMMARY:
American Councils is currently seeking a qualified Resident Director
to work on two summer programs based at Alexandria University (AU) in
Alexandria, Egypt.  Resident Directors represent American Councils in
their actions and words during the tenure of appointment.  They must
be available to program participants on a daily basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
·         Observing participant classes at the host university;
·         Meeting regularly with faculty, administrators, and participants;
·         Working with Egyptian counterparts to arrange group travel
and cultural programs;
·         Working closely with the Program Coordinator for the dorms,
meals, excursions, and emergencies;
·         Working closely with the Academic Coordinator, to make sure
curriculum and syllabi are in place; and
·         Reporting back on participants’ achievements and progress.

The Resident Director must be available to participants during any
emergencies that arise and must communicate regularly with the program
officer in Washington, DC regarding student and host institution
issues. The Summer Resident Director reports to the Senior Program
Officer Rafah Helal in Washington, DC.

QUALIFICATIONS:
·         Bachelor’s degree or higher in Arabic language or area
studies or equivalent;
·         Advanced Arabic language skills -- written and oral (minimum
2/2+ on ACTFL scale)
·         Study, work, or extensive travel experience in Egypt;
·         Experience overseeing and guiding groups;
·         U.S. citizen or permanent resident;
·         Demonstrated skills in academic and personal counseling; and
·         Demonstrated skills in general financial accountability.

·         All excursions associated with program
·         International Emergency Medical and Evacuation Insurance provided
·         Honorarium
