Arabic Institute for the Next Generation
at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Harvard University

The STARTALK Arabic Institute for the Next Generation is a three-week
program for undergraduate students who aspire to teach Arabic in
secondary schools. The program includes applied linguistics, pedagogy,
and culture studies classes, as well as field trips, classroom visits,
micro-teaching, and guest lectures.

Course participants will gain practical skills in materials development
and curriculum design, including development of a syllabus and lesson
plans within framework standards and how to assess student learning. The
program will guide participants in continuing studies in their home
universities or through established degree-granting teacher training
programs.

This program is offered at no charge, and participants receive three
undergraduate credit hours (pending approval) and a $500 stipend on
successful completion of the course requirements. Additional need-based
scholarships are available. The program will provide textbooks and
materials.

Course participants are expected to have an advanced knowledge of Arabic
language and little or no prior teaching experience. Current
undergraduate students are eligible to apply.

This intensive workshop begins May 23 and ends June 8, Monday-Friday.

Deadline for application is April 15, 2012. For further information and
