Language/Applied Linguistics

*Arabic Language/Applied Linguistics*

Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar invites
applications for an open-rank, core-track position in the field of Arabic
Language/Applied Linguistics starting in August 2013. Core faculty
positions are full-time positions which carry the job security and
commitment to academic freedom associated with tenure-track appointments.

The position is part of a major faculty expansion funded by Qatar
Foundation with the triple aim of supporting SFS-Qatar’s enhanced research
mission, diversifying our curriculum, and growing student numbers. This
expansion includes four new positions in Arabic. The new appointments are
designed to make SFS-Qatar into a global leader in Arabic for Heritage
Learners, as well as a regional leader in world-class research and teaching
in Arabic and Arab literature.

Some experience of, and research interest in, the teaching of Arabic for
Heritage Learners is required, while an ability to teach “content” courses
in Arabic on a subject such as culture, history, and/or aspects of the
contemporary Arab world, will be a bonus. Applicants of advanced rank must
have substantial research accomplishments and evidence of ambitious ongoing
research agendas; entry-level applicants must have exceptional promise of
future research productivity; an early track record of publications will be
an advantage. The Candidate is expected to offer undergraduate courses,
play a leading role in strengthening the program, and complement the
research and teaching interests of other faculty members. The normal
teaching load is 2-2. Applications (consisting of a letter of application,
curriculum vitae, writing sample (of no more than 30 pages) and three
letters of reference) will be accepted online at
https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/2086. Review of applications will
start on October 30, and will continue until the position is filled.

Qatar offers a diverse, safe and family-friendly environment. SFS-Q
provides free high-quality housing, and excellent compensation and
expatriate benefits packages. Faculty at SFS-Q receive generous research
support and support for conference travel, and benefit from exceptional
facilities. Faculty are eligible to apply for Qatar National Priorities
Research Program grants from the Qatar National Research Fund, for up to
$1,050,000 for three years. QNRF also additional offers competitive
research grants for early-career scholars (for more information see
