Subject:Volunteering with Syrian Refugees query

Greetings!

My name is Addie Byrum and I'm an Arabic Linguistics graduate student
(focusing on second language acquisition/pedagogy) at the University
of Michigan. I am interested in volunteering to teach English to
Syrian refugee children in Jordan or Turkey this summer, but it would
be difficult for me to do so through a large international aid
organization both because of general requirements (for those
organizations that even place volunteers overseas) and required time
commitments from volunteers. I would also prefer to volunteer with a
smaller, local organization or school. I am looking for contacts
either in small aid organizations that work to facilitate education
within refugee camps or contacts at schools in Jordan or Turkey that
have recently absorbed Syrian refugees. I have tried to find/contact
some schools and organizations myself, but I (understandably) have not
received any replies yet and there is often little information
available online.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that I would be able to go to Lebanon
because I am applying for a grant through UM to cover my travel/living
costs and travel to Lebanon is currently restricted.

Contacts (or any advice) would be much appreciated!

All best,

Adelaide Byrum
