phylum (Chadic, Berber, Cushitic, Omotic, Egyptian, and Semitic). Topics
related to all aspects of Afroasiatic languages, including phonology,
morphology, syntax, comparative linguistics, sociolinguistics, and
epigraphy, will be considered. These topics should only be considered as
general guidelines and are not intended to be exhaustive.

We are pleased to announce that the keynote speaker for NACAL 43 will be
Prof. Zygmunt Frajzyngier. The title of his talk will be “Afroasiatic
languages: Challenges and implications for linguistic theory.”

Call for Papers:

Submissions are solicited for the 43nd annual meeting of the North American
Conference on Afroasiatic Linguistics (NACAL 43) to be held at Georgetown
University in Washington, DC, from Friday, February 13, 2015 through
Sunday, February 15, 2015.

The theme for NACAL 43 is the Afroasiatic languages’ contribution to
general linguistic research. In line with this theme, submissions dealing
with the interface between particular Afroasiatic languages and various
fields in linguistics, specifically in the way these languages deepen our
understanding of general phenomena in human language, are welcomed. No
original submission will be rejected on account of its subject, so long as
it relates to the languages of the Afroasiatic phylum and meets the
scholarly standards established by previous conferences.

All abstracts should be in English with glosses or translations for words
or examples in any other language. Each abstract, including the title and
any data in figures or tables, must not exceed 300 words. Abstracts should
be submitted to the conference email address, afroasiatic at gmail.com (pdf
and MS word document), byNovember 15, 2014. Please be advised that late
submissions may not be considered.

We encourage online registration, for which you may visit our website at
www.nacal.org. The authors of successful submissions will be notified
by December
1, 2015.

Information regarding accommodations for NACAL 43 will be posted to the
website by early September.
