The University of Nizwa
(UoN) was established in the Sultanate of Oman in 2004 as a faculty governed
not-for-profit private university. Located 140 km from the national capital
of
Muscat in the interior region of Al-Dakhiliya near the historic former
capital
of Nizwa, the university seeks to provide a progressive and safe learning
environment that is respectful of the traditions and values of the
Sultanate.
Since its inception, the guiding
philosophy of the University of Nizwa has been to provide students with a
high
quality education that prepares them to contribute meaningfully to the
economic, artistic and aesthetic growth of the country.
The new established Arabic
Institute, University of Nizwa, Oman, is seekingto
recruitassistant/associate professors and
language instructors to teach Modern Standard Arabic to speakers of other
languages (TASOL), and Applied linguistics.
Job Description
Assistant/Associate Professor
The successful applicant will be expected to:
·         Participate in course
planning and curriculum design,
·         Teach Arabic as a second
language for all levels (Beginners to Advanced),
·         Teach courses at the MA
levels (applied linguistics, Arabic as a second language in particular),
·         Contribute to the
development of courses, the development of student learning opportunities,
and
the development of teaching materials,
·         Collaborate with other academics
working on the programmes,
·         Engage in and publish
quality research,
·         Supervise postgraduate
students’ dissertations,
·         Undertake necessary
administrative tasks,
Required minimum qualifications:
The ideal candidate willhave the following profile:
·         PhD from a recognized
university in Applied Linguistics (Arabic)/ TASOL,
·         Higher Education
teaching experience in a relevant specialism for a minimum of three years,
·         Computer / Media
literacy,
·         Research track record
and proof of an ongoing commitment to research activities (according to
rank),
·         Willingness to
contribute to the academic development of the programmes within the
institute,
·         Experience working in an
L2 Arabic academic context.
·         Experience in quality
and assurance is preferable.
Arabic Language Instructor:
The successful applicant will be expected to:
·         Teach Arabic as a second
