My name is Ashley Davidson and I work for the International Writing Program
at the University of Iowa. On Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 9am CST (5pm
Baghdad time) the University of Iowa will link up with the University of
Baghdad to present Book Wings, a live bilingual (Arabic/English)
collaborative theatre project that uses the latest new media technologies
to bring together actors, writers, directors, translators, and stage spaces
6,500 miles apart to produce one unified theatre experience, presenting 6
newly commissioned plays. The performance will be live-streamed (free and
viewable by anyone with an internet connection), with a 20 minute talk-back
session featuring participating playwrights, directors, and actors,
immediately following the performance. Internet viewers are invited to
Tweet comments and questions for the live talk-back using the hashtag
#bookw.

Is there any chance you might consider sharing information about Book Wings
with your colleagues and encouraging your students to watch and participate
in the talk-back?

More on the project, including full bios of the playwrights and summaries
of the commissioned works, can be found at:
http://iwp.uiowa.edu/programs/book-wings/2014-Iraq

The bilingual performance will be viewable live on Tuesday, March 11, 2014
at 9am CST (10am Eastern time) at:
http://www.writinguniversity.org/page/book-wings-live-streaming

The March 11th performance will mark the debut of 6 new short plays
commissioned by the University of Baghdad and the International Writing
Program on the central theme of “Courage.”

A PDF of the program, including the complete text of all 6 plays, in
English and Arabic, will be made available free online by early March, for
those wanting to familiarize themselves with the plays beforehand.

Long term, Book Wings aims to provide a model for leveraging technology to
increase artistic collaboration internationally. As such, Book Wings is
actively seeking arts institutions, theatres, literary organizations, high
schools, colleges, and universities to host watch parties of the live
internet stream. We would be happy to create a PDF poster for your event
and promote it on social media if you would like:

We would be delighted if you and/or your students might join us online for
the performance.

Many thanks for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Ashley Davidson
