What kinds</FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"><BR></FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"> of writer and public are being produced? What images of Islam are being</FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"><BR></FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"> produced? Taking my point of departure in M. A. K. Halliday's model of</FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"><BR></FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"> functional grammar and theories about the pragmatic significance of</FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"><BR></FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"> pronoun use, I will carry out a qualitative analysis of a small number of</FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"><BR></FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"> texts by Yusuf al-Qaradawi and Amr Khalid. The focus of the analysis is on</FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"><BR></FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"> their use of pronouns, Mood structures and transitivity structures to</FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"><BR></FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"> construct a particular relationship with their readers, and to construe</FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"><BR></FONT><FONT class="Apple-style-span" face="Tahoma"> specific images of Islam.
