(ISSN 0362-3637)<br><br>Abstract (from LLBA):<br><br>Some common references to concepts of time, space, & other types of<br>quantification used in the city dialect of Gaza are sociolinguistically<br>analyzed. Time & space concepts do not depend as much upon any one system<br>within the grammar, as they do upon the ways of analyzing & reporting<br>experiences which have become fixed in the language as integrated "fashions<br>of speaking;" for example, those that relate to major events of the past,<br>such as Muhammad's time & the 1948 War. Time & place references are<br>obliquely made concepts, through loose adverbial constructions; references<br>to time of day are approximated; places have a social reference; money,<br>however, is quantified exactly. There are definite connections between<br>cultural norms & linguistic patterns which differ from those of Standard<br>American English.<br><br>It's old, but it's better than nothing.
