The UAE CBBE will<br>be engaged in basic and applied linguistics research with the aim to<br>generate knowledge about and to promote academic and professional<br>proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and English among<br>Arabic-speaking peoples of the UAE, the Gulf, and the wider Arab world. <br><br>The UAE CBBE invites applications for several researcher positions in<br>applied linguistics, corpus linguistics and sociolinguistics at Zayed<br>University's Abu Dhabi campus, with appointments starting in September<br>2009. We are seeking colleagues who possess a strong commitment to applied<br>linguistics research excellence and to supporting high-level bilingual<br>proficiency. <br><br>In addition to full-time appointments, we also welcome inquiries from<br>colleagues interested in entering into a joint appointment with their<br>current institution or in a visiting appointment.<br><br>The UAE CBBE seeks to appoint researchers with specializations in one or<br>more of the following:<br>- Ethnographic approaches to intercultural and multilingual communication<br>and literacies in academic and professional contexts<br>- Language learning and teaching, particularly as it relates to advanced<br>language learners of Arabic and English<br>- Language assessment and testing, particularly as they relate to academic<br>and professional literacies in Arabic and English<br>- Multilingual communication corpora<br>- Language policy and planning<br>- Arabic sociolinguistics<br>- Arabic language education<br>Successful applicants will be expected to collaborate on research projects<br>that contribute to the overall mission of the UAE CBBE.
