This course is open to Mason <br>students, consortium, and the public. Students must have taken at least <br>two years of Arabic, or they may also take ARAB 250-Gateway to Advanced <br>Arabic in the summer, or they will need a permission from the instructor.<br><br>Course Description, Goals and Objectives:<br>Iraqi Arabic course is designed to teach the colloquial language of the <br>people of Iraq, with the emphasis on the dialect of the capital, <br>Baghdad, northern and southern Iraq as well. The course will teach <br>students to converse in the target dialect and comprehend the spoken <br>Iraqi dialect. Besides learning the daily conversation, you will be <br>introduced to some idioms, folkloric songs, proverbs, and the Iraqi <br>literature. The Iraqi dialect course will also examine the linguistic <br>and grammatical aspect of the dialect and compare it to the Modern <br>Standard Arabic. <br>The linguistic background of Iraqi Arabic will cover phonology, <br>morphology, verbs, inflection, Numbering, pronouns and syntax.
