Currently, the department consists of fifteen<br>full time faculty members and offers a Master of Arts in<br>English/Arabic/English Translation and Interpreting (MATI), as well as a<br>minor in Arabic language and literature, and a minor in English/Arabic<br>Translation. The prospective HOD is expected to provide good leadership in<br>the development of undergraduate majors in Arabic, Islamic and translation<br>studies. <br>The successful candidate should satisfy the following requirements:<br>• Be at the rank of associate professor or professor <br>• Hold a PhD in Arabic language and literature, translation studies, or<br>related fields. <br>• Have experience and/or familiarity with North American higher<br>educational system <br>• Have native or near native proficiency in both Arabic and English <br>• Have strong teaching and scholarly publication records <br>• Have a minimum of 3 years administrative experience, preferably as<br>HOD or director of an Arabic/Translation program <br>• Be able to deal efficiently with people from diverse cultural and<br>educational backgrounds <br>• Be familiar with the Middle East. <br>The HOD receives a three- year administrative contract, renewable at three<br>year increments. However, UAE law prohibits people over 65 from receiving<br>multiple year contracts. Contracts for people over 65 are renewed on a<br>yearly basis.
