The projects will support CASL's mission<br>to conduct state-of-the-art research in areas that result in improved<br>performance on language tasks relevant to the work of government language<br>professionals. Responsibilities include literature reviews, linguistic<br>analysis, contributing to descriptive grammars of critical languages such<br>as Pashto, and, depending on qualifications, linguistic fieldwork or<br>computational linguistics. The FRA will also provide project administrative<br>duties, such as helping to prepare progress reports and schedule meetings.<br>Full-time availability is preferred, but a part-time appointment of 20<br>hours a week may also be considered.<br><br>Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher with major or minor in<br>linguistics, or an indication that the candidate has had training in<br>linguistics. Course work or a specialization in a less commonly taught<br>language, particularly a Middle Eastern, Central Asian, or South Asian<br>language, is a plus. Also desirable is an ability and willingness to learn<br>to work with quantitative research methods, corpus linguistics, and<br>computer applications for linguistic research. The successful candidate<br>will work as a member of a larger team and be motivated to receive training<br>as needed.<br><br>Candidates must hold U.S. citizenship and be willing to obtain the<br>appropriate security clearance. <br><br>CASL, established in 2003, is the nation's 10th university-affiliated<br>research center. Its mission is to conduct state-of-the-science research<br>that results in improved performance on language tasks relevant to the work<br>of government language professionals.
