Responsibilities for both programs</div><div>include building strong relationships with our host universities, designing and implementing summer</div><div>and semester programs’ curricula and other program elements, marketing the programs nationally,</div><div>answering faculty and student inquiries, managing key U.S. partnerships, overseeing pricing and</div><div>budgeting, recruiting, hiring, training and managing on-site Resident Directors and other staff, and</div><div>communicating effectively with the Middle East Advisory Board.</div><div><br></div><div>Given the volatile nature of the Middle East, the responsibilities of this position are constantly evolving.</div><div>Thus, flexibility, adaptability, resourcefulness and enthusiasm are key attributes of a successful</div><div>candidate. The Middle East Programs Manager will work as a member of CET’s Program Team, and</div><div>he/she will report to CET’s Director.</div><div><br></div><div>Description of the Organization</div><div><br></div><div>CET Academic Programs is a study abroad organization based in Washington, DC that has been</div><div>designing and administering innovative educational programs abroad since 1982. Originally “China</div><div>Educational Tours,” CET began operations in Beijing, later expanding to other cities in China and then to</div><div>other countries around the world. Today, CET offers semester and summer study abroad programs in</div><div>China, the Czech Republic, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Syria and Vietnam, as well as short-term, customized</div><div>programs worldwide. CET is known for high academic standards, innovative approaches to teaching and</div><div>careful student management. CET programs integrate students into their overseas communities and lead</div><div>them to create lasting relationships with their local hosts. As an environmentally conscientious</div><div>organization, CET adopts locally-appropriate measures in each of its centers worldwide to reduce its</div><div>carbon footprint. Staffed by over 40 full-time employees in the US and abroad, CET currently sends</div><div>around 1000 US students abroad annually.</div><div><br></div><div>Responsibilities</div><div><br></div><div>Program Development</div><div> Work closely with host university officials and on-site staff to develop and implement academic</div><div>program elements for both the summer and semester programs.</div><div> Ensure Middle East programs to reflect CET’s values, emphasizing academic rigor and</div><div>immersion.</div><div> Maintain Syllabi of Record and ensure all term syllabi accurately fulfill SOR guidelines.</div><div> Work closely with American University personnel, CET’s partner in the Aleppo program, to</div><div>ensure the program reflects their vision for the program.</div><div> Draft written agreements with our host universities and with US partners as needed.</div><div> Travel to Jordan and Syria as needed (at least once per year) to learn about our programs, foster</div><div>good host university relations, and work with CET staff on-site.</div><div> Create long-term development plans that might include additional sites in the region.</div><div><br></div><div>Marketing</div><div> Develop enrollment targets for Middle East programs. Develop a marketing plan to achieve these</div><div>goals.</div><div> Work with CET’s marketing staff to develop (and regularly update) appropriate print and online</div><div>marketing materials for Middle East programs. Maintain a mailing list of faculty and staff who</div><div>will want to receive these regularly.</div><div> Manage the CET Middle East Advisory Board of Arabic language and Middle Eastern Studies</div><div>faculty who share a commitment to creating programs of the highest quality in Syria and Jordan.</div><div>Organize two meetings/year, one of which will be at an appropriate academic conference.</div><div> Serve as CET’s expert on the Middle East, educating and advising marketing staff as they travel</div><div>to promote CET’s program. Organize CET staff and US partner visits to the site as our budget</div><div>will allow.</div><div> Travel to AU occasionally to assist the AU Abroad staff recruit AU students. Travel to other local</div><div>institutions and events as assigned.</div><div> Travel to additional US colleges and universities to support recruiting efforts.</div><div> When necessary, represent CET at academic conferences.</div><div> Assist and participate in other marketing tasks, on an as-needed basis.</div><div><br></div><div>Management</div><div> Recruit, hire, train, and manage Resident Directors and other on-site staff.</div><div> Develop general deadlines for overseas staff assignments.</div><div> Provide timely, effective feedback orally and in writing to overseas staff after receipt of their</div><div>midterm, final, and orientation reports.</div><div><br></div><div>Program Administration and Finance</div><div> Answer student and faculty questions concerning CET’s Middle East programs.</div><div> Develop all pre-departure materials for students and conduct pre-departure orientations.</div><div> Oversee enrollment and report on trends.</div><div> Review all student applications and manage admissions procedures and decisions.</div><div> Work closely with the Europe and Middle East Student Services Manager and Europe and</div><div>Middle East Admissions Coordinator.</div><div> Assist in planning and implementing hosting events for Syrian and Jordanian visitors when they</div><div>come to the US.</div><div> Manage US faculty visits to CET sites in Jordan and Syria.</div><div> Price the Middle East programs annually and prepare operating budgets each term.</div><div> Oversee on-site operating budgets, wiring money to the overseas staff and CET’s partners as</div><div>needed.</div><div> Prepare financial reports and program summaries for quarterly Program Completion Reports.</div><div><br></div><div>Requirements</div><div> MA in Arabic, Middle Eastern Studies or other relevant discipline.</div><div> Excellent management and organization skills.</div><div> Superior interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.</div><div> Advanced-level to near-native Arabic language skills.
