<br><div>Announcement</div><div>Â </div><div>The Department of World Languages and Cultures at American University is offering three levels of Modern Standard Arabic during the summer 2013 session. Â Students will have the opportunity to complete a year of academic study of Arabic in 12 weeks during the summer 2013 session. Â Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced Arabic courses will be offered three evenings per week for 12 weeks. <div>Â </div><div>Summer 2013 Arabic Courses at American University</div><div>Â </div><div>ARAB-196 Intensive Elementary Arabic</div><div>Introduction to Modern Standard Arabic covering its phonology and script, its basic morphology</div>
<div>and syntax. The focus is on the development of the reading, speaking, listening, and writing</div><div>skills, while creating a basic vocabulary. This intensive course covers the material taught during</div><div>the fall and spring semesters.</div>
<div>10 credits</div><div>May 20-August 8, MWTH 5:30-9:15pm</div><div>Â </div><div>ARAB-296 Intensive Intermediate Arabic</div><div>The goals of this course are to make students familiar with new elements of Modern Standard</div>
<div>Arabic grammar, to further develop their reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills, while</div><div>expanding the vocabulary. This intensive course covers the material taught during the fall and</div><div>spring semesters.</div>
<div>Prerequisite: ARAB-103 or equivalent</div><div>10 credits</div><div>May 20-August 8, MWTH 5:30-9:15pm</div><div>Â </div><div>ARAB-396 Intensive Advanced Arabic</div><div>This course introduces students to more advanced Modern Standard Arabic grammar and</div>
<div>significantly expands their vocabulary. The focus is on solidification and improvement of the</div><div>reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills, while learning on Arab institutions, ideas, and</div><div>history. This intensive course covers the material taught during the fall and spring semesters.</div>
