Athabaskanist → Morphologist?

Not too long ago someone jokingly said to me "all Athabaskanists are
morphologists". In one way this certainly seems to be true: everyone
working on an Athabaskan or related langauge has to come to grips with
some of the world's most complex morphological systems. But I am
curious whether people in the community really think of themselves as
morphologists, or instead as specialists in some other subfield which
just happens to impinge on morphology. Thoughts?

Cheers,
James
