<p>I think weʼll do a general announcement at the beginning of January. I have been slow with everything on my end because I am teaching three large classes this term on top of all my community work. Best wishes to you and everyone there and have a great holiday!</p>

<div>Hi Patrick,</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>That’s unfortunate about the funding. Right now Yellowknives Dene had to temporarily shut down their language program, pending a review of the program, so now is not a good time for them to be presenting (we hope this issue will be fixed in the near future).
I suggest you get in touch with someone in the Tłı̨chǫ Nation, or Mandy Beyha up in Délı̨nę, I think they are doing good things. I can tell you that in Łútsëlk'é, the contact person is Doris Catholique. I don't have her email but if you want I could help
you get in touch with her.<br>

<div><br>
</div>
<div>In any case, I hope a conference announcement will come out fairly soon?</div>

<p>Alex,</p>

<p>Doig River is planning to host the Dene Languages Conference together with their Beaver and Cree language gathering April 24th and 25th, 2025. </p>
<p><br>
</p>
<p>I checked on SSHRC funding for the conference and found out that SSHRC no longer funds conferences, so there will be no funding apart from what Doig River First Nation is able to find. Their strong priority is to identify people who are forging ahead with
language teaching and learning at the community level. Are there exemplary programs in the NWT for which I should contact key people to see if they can get funding to attend the conference? I know many of the linguists from their work, but I am not as up to
date about the community work in the NWT.</p>

<div>ɂedláanet'e-á sélat'ıné,</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I just had a community member ask me about whether there is still going to be a Dene languages conference in 2025. First just to review what we had tentatively agreed to before:</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>2025: Doig River First Nation, BC</div>
<div>2026: Kenaitze Indian Tribe, Kenai, Alaska</div>
<div>2027: Yellowknives Dene First Nation, Yellowknife, NT</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>That may be one thing I hadn't communicated to the list before, that the Yellowknives Dene have agreed to a 2027 conference. Anyways, the reason I am writing is to ask: is this still the plan? It's no problem if we have to change plans,but in that case
we should make a decision sooner rather than later. For example, if Doig River no longer wants to host in 2025, maybe one of the other host communities' dates could be moved up.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>So for those of you who are in touch with Doig River First Nation, please let me know if you have heard anything.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Thanks,</div>
