I think that in Scottish Gaelic at least vowel length and pitch are
associated - long vowels having a falling pitch.  So vowel length
may confuse the issue of pitch.  This is just from observation recently
and I haven't thought about it very much and don't know anything much
about pitch so I may be wrong.
