The Ben Alder Chair in Celtic Studies

St. Francis Xavier Univeristy
Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada

The Department of Celtic Studies of St. Francis Xavier University is
seeking to fill the Ben Alder Chair in Celtic Studies.  The holder of
this prestigious Chair will be appointed for a two year term beginning
the 2002-2003 academic year.   Preference will be given to applicants or
nominees who hold a Ph.D. in Celtic Studies, who possess native or
near-native knowledge of Scottish Gaelic, and who have some teaching and
publication experience. The successful candidate will be expected to
participate fully in the local Gaelic community.

Situated in Eastern Nova Scotia, Saint Francis Xavier University is 60
kilometers from Cape Breton Island, the last stronghold of  Scottish
Gaelic in North America.  The University has a long history of teaching
Scottish Gaelic and has a strong commitment to Gaelic language and
culture in Nova Scotia.  The Celtic Studies Department and the student
Celtic Society organize a number of  Gaelic-related events during the
course of the year.

curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation to:   Professor

Xavier University, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, B2G 2W5.  Applications or
nominations will be considered from March 15, 2002.
